’Contribution of the Year 2015’ in Pärnu"
Estonia’s most innovative school building
“The top-down reconstruction of Koidula School in Pärnu as a state upper secondary school transformed the tired old school building into a youthful and playful learning environment perfectly suited to upper secondary students.
The needs of the users were taken into account when planning the building – young, intelligent people value modern, diverse learning space. In addition to the classrooms there is a large auditorium, a well-equipped sports halls and a gym.
The architecture of the building is not only visually pleasing but features some cutting-edge technology, including touch-sensitive projectors and outstanding sound equipment. Thought has also been given to physically challenged users, with the planning of the building making it much more open as a whole – larger areas were added in front of the canteen and hall where people gather and disperse, and narrow corridors have been done away with.”
