“Kaagvere Special School, also known as Maarjamaa Educational College, is a school for students with special needs. It is a modern and aesthetically pleasing building with spacious planning. The school complex as a whole comprises a multi-functional main building, a family building and 10 group homes which are linked by a diverse and well-planned courtyard area. All of this was designed to make the complex feel as cosy and homely as possible. In order to give the concrete buildings a more friendly appearance, tones were chosen which would harmonise with the surrounding environment. Energy efficiency had to be kept in mind in the selection of construction materials and solutions, but also the speed at which the large complex needed to be constructed. As a result, 95% of all structures were built using prefabricated elements made from reinforced concrete.”
