Kusmin’s Office Building

The inspiration for the building ‘Grigori Kusmin House’ derive from the Ülemiste City concept where the buildings have been named by Estonian scientists.
Grigori Kusmin was an astronomer. He also was a student and a collage of another remarkable Estonian scientist Ernst Julius Öpik. Development of the flat disc theory was on the most important aspects of Kusmin’s life work.
The purpose in the project was to create an innovative and flowing architectural form that serves as a comfortable and versatile office building for its tenants and visitors.

The concept:

o Two harmonious cylinder shapes that differ in volume offer a pleasing view to the people landing in Tallinn Airport
o Fresh form and a monumental accent in the Ülemiste City area
o First floor is an open plan and accessible form every side
o The moon and the sun atrium have been inspired by the Kusmin’s flat disc theory allow the natural light to spread through all floors
o Interior solutions are diverse and autonomous to enable for the best working environment
o The glass façade has vertical panels and perforated metal sheets for sun protection
